Shibuya Attic (Hepburn: Shibuya Yaneura, sometimes referred to as simply "Yaneura") is a live house in Shibuya, Tokyo, which opened on December 26th, 1975. It also has a branch in Shimokitazawa. Shibuya Attic is notable for having hosted concerts of Casiopea, Prism, Space Circus, Camino, T-Square, and more.
History
Shibuya Attic opened on December 26th, 1975, located between Shibuya Center Gai and Seibu Department Store. It was founded by NHK-FM director Koichiro Hatano (who also produced Young Kodama). The PA system at the Attic was owned (and gifted to the venue) by the band Zuno Keisatsu. The band members also helped with the interior construction, which is why their final concert was held at the Attic. The opening party featured a performance from the band Rouge.
On August 31st, 1986, the Shibuya Attic closed and moved to Shimokitazawa, which remained the only Attic location until the opening of a new Shibuya location in September 1997 (located near Shibuya Parco Part 3, 13-16 Udagawacho, Kokusai Building B, B1F).
Notable Artists
At its first location, Shibuya Attic hosted many concerts of notable artists, including Casiopea, Prism, Space Circus, Katsutoshi Morizono with Bird's Eye View, Yoninbayashi, Camino, T-Square, Char, Crosswind, Carmen Maki & Oz, Kazuo Takeda, Jun Yamagishi, Creation, Southern All Stars, Condition Green, RC Succession, Bowwow, and Boøwy.
T-Square guitarist Masahiro Ando, recalls that when he was a student in the 70s, he was a big fan of Prism, and used to attend their concerts at the Shibuya Attic. He was particularly fascinated by Akira Wada.
